The other week a few of our pupils attended the Year 4-6 student hui organised by the local Enviroschools team.
Joining 11 other schools the group spent the day at Orokonui Ecosanctuary. The theme was ‘Take Action for Conservation’.
During the day the group moved around 5 different stations and participated in activities led by the staff at Orokonui and Marine Studies Centre.
The activities included creating habitats for creatures focusing on skinks and gecko, birds and predator control using trakka tunnels, chew cards and electronic monitoring, learning to use field sketching as a way to record our natural environment, taking action – removing unwanted plants on the tracks and looking at treats to penguins and mitigation of these treats.
